Those familiar with Maguire’s work will recognize their spiritual intent. After receiving her MFA the artistjourneyed extensively in the East and developed a meditative approach apparent in her work. Often enigmatic, her forms and figures are not symbols of the unconscious but are, according to the artist,
stripped down, intensified visual facts firmly based in sensation. The viewer, like the artist, can feel the gesture and movement of the figure, and becomes a ‘vessel to embrace raw energy’. In applying and then selectively scraping away various layers Maguire comes to the realization of her vision. As if on an
archaeological dig through the psychic strata of the human condition, the artist is able to unearth the elemental image and reveal its essence. Maguire’s work can be found in collections throughout North America.
